A little girl, sat in her handmade cotton dress watching her mother stitching and sewing. That little girl was me. ‘How uncool’ I thought. Little did I realise the fine art it was.
It wasn’t until I had left India, my eyes opened to the beauty I was immersed in, yet completely oblivious to it. Every product has a unique story with magic in the hands and eyes that pour over a needle.
Living in the Emerald Isle, in the small city of Belfast, I just couldn’t stop visualising the vivid colours.
Woven Riches is my humble attempt to bring India a little closer to Belfast and beyond. My aim is to collaborate the contemporary design language with the artisanal communities of India, with the intricate, traditional techniques that they use.
Machines are now taking over the World and us at Woven Riches aim to preserve the beauty of handmade work. This is why we want every product to have a handcrafted touch, enabling the family techniques such as block printing and hand embroidery to be passed on to further generations.
